Keynote Speaker: His Worship Mayor Gordon Van Tighem, City Of Yellowknife
For the past 11 years, His Worship Mayor Van Tighem has focused on how the City of Yellowknife can develop sustainable practices that will ensure a bright future for his City. He has provided leadership in this area which has helped the City garner numerous accolades in the area of sustainability. The City’s most recent initiative is a plan to extract mine heat from a defunct gold mine that will serve as a fuel source for a Community Energy System for the City of Yellowknife.
Mayor Van Tighem was born in Calgary, Alberta, and graduated from University of Manitoba. He moved to Yellowknife from Edmonton in 1992 with the Bank of Montreal. After retiring in 1999, he was elected the next year and has served ever since. He has broad experience with a variety of organizations such as the Yellowknife and the NWT Chambers of Commerce and as a Founding Director of both the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation and the SideDoor Youth Centre. He currently serves as a National Director of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and President of the Northwest Territories Association of Communities.

Carla Rieger is an expert on creative change solutions. She is the director of The Artistry of Change, an organizational change and communications firm since 1991. She has written four books on change, leadership and innovation. In addition, she has over 15 years experience in the performing arts, specifically comedy. As a frequent presenter before over 1500 audiences worldwide, Carla helps them stay in high performance states even during “the groan zone” of change.
